This led to nearly 20 Dulwich Students developing an interest in the sport with many joining external clubs. This early group of fencers included a then 6 year old Joseph Glasson. Due to the closure of Dragon Fencing Club after it was acquired by a third party in 2013 there was no fencing activity at the school for several years. In 2016, and following the completion of the new sports hall, Mr Jamie King reintroduced the fencing CCA to Dulwich College Shanghai under the supervision of Coach Matthew Haynes. With close to 100 children experiencing fencing in term 3 of the 2015/2016 school year the program was continued in the 2016/2017 academic year with a dedicated space beginning created to compliment the main sports hall venue. In May 2016 Joseph Glasson won the fencing programs first Gold Medal in the All China U10 men's foil event in Tianjin (with over 260 entries this was the biggest ever event of its type within China).
